So I started going back to playing SW:TOR once again and going through the Knights of the Fallen Empire/Knights of the Eternal Throne Expansions, it got me thinking, what if the Zakuul Empire during its height (With Valkorion’s Leadership) went up against the Galactic Empire under Palpatine? How would the battle play out, and who would come up on top? Let’s find out!To begin with, let’s go over the strengths and weaknesses within both Empire’s and see how that factors into the proposed war between the two.Eternal Empire of Zakuul. The most powerful Naval Fleet, outfitted with Imperial I Star Destroyers, Interdictor Class Ships, TIE fighters/TIE Interceptor class fighters can outmatch Eternal Fleet Fighters, and the Executor Class Super Star Destroyer. Brilliant strategic minds such as Grand Admiral Thrawn, Gilad Pellaeon, and more to lead them.Large Ground Forces with powerful land vehicles and specialized and trained forces.Weaknesses:Ruled by fear, populace has a higher chance of revolting.Force Users are in short supply compared to the Eternal EmpireArrogant and sometimes Reckless Officers can compromise battles. Overconfident in their ability to win battles. The Beginning of the WarAfter the defeat of the Rebellion over Endor, the Empire has found a strange signal originating deep within Wild Space.
Going to investigate, Grand Admiral Thrawn leads the expedition into Wild Space to understand the signal and report back to the emboldened Empire. What he finds, is a civilization retained in time, and is now awakened to strike back and reconquer the Galaxy. Thus the battle between The Eternal Empire and Galactic Empire begins as War once again burns across the Galaxy. Here’s the scenario.
The Eternal Empire has the entire Eternal Fleet at its disposal, all Knights of Zakuul and he Honor Guards, A Maximum amount of Skytroopers being produced to keep fighting battles, The Eternal Family is all back, with Valkorion, Arcann, Unchained Vaylin, Thexan and Senya Tirall, and Scions available for council. “Thank you sir. I just wanted to say, is that the fleet has been at this for quite some time. I have our best cartographers trying to triangulate the signal position but We haven’t made much progress.” Thrawn’s bright red eyes kept staring out into open space as Pellaeon spoke and began to respond to him.“I see.
And what would you have us do Captain?”“I would reposition the fleet back to the Core Worlds and return to help bring down any remaining Rebel Cells. We shouldn’t have sent this many ships into a wild hunt into one of the most uncharted regions in space.” As Thrawn was about to retort, there was a major energy signature showing up on his command center.“Admiral, we have incoming multiple ships of an unknown origin, and the energy signatures seem to be Ancient.” Thrawn looked up as he saw the space in front of him ripple as the Eternal Fleet had arrived. “I already have sent them out to combat this force.' “GEMINI, I want you to take out that fleet. I will not tolerate defeat here.”As the Eternal Fleet begins surround the unknowing Imperial Fleet, Thrawn begins to understand what kind of positioning and fleet composition he was going up against and how to properly use his resources. He would look at Pellaeon and order his fleet to defend the Interdictor, considering that even with the more advanced hulls and shielding the Interdictor had, it could not handle too much concentrated fire from a massive fleet such as the Eternal Fleet. Thrawn’s usual tactics would be to scramble fighters first to engage with the fleet, but considering that the fleet has arrived closer to the Expedition Fleet, he would have to engage some of his ships to give fire support as he hangs the Chimaera further in the back to possibly defend his interdictor if need be.
We have to also remember that, while the Eternal Fleet is much much greater in size compared to Thrawn’s Expedition Fleet, that the Imperial Ships are the most powerful Naval Weapons in the Galaxy at the time. The Eternal Fleet is still at a disadvantage because of how powerful the Imperial Ships are and how much damage they could sustain, and punch back with, but the Eternal Fleet does have powers that can hamper the Imperial Fleet. Such as the tight knit attack formation that unleashes a powerful blast, but can be countered if a ship is destroyed before firing the blast. I believe in this first skirmish, Thrawn will lose either a Victory Class Frigate or one of his Acclamators from this attack since he hasn’t seen the Fleet’s full capabilities yet. The Eternal Fleet also has boarding vessels on each ship, so the Imperial Ships must also fight off invaders, but I believe the Imperials can repel them easily, even with the Skytroopers outnumbering them due to Better Equipment, Firepower, Tactics and cohesion compared to the Skytroopers due to the fact that they are droids that have weaker weapons and armor compared to the Imperial Navy.In terms of the dogfights, I believe the Imperial Fleet Fighters can take care of the weaker Eternal Empire fighters. At the end of this battle, Thrawn will take out a good chunk of the Eternal Fleet but forcing to retreat due to the sheer amount the Eternal Fleet has. Due to being caught off guard, his fleet’s shields were not fully ready to take the brunt of the firepower the Eternal Fleet has. Although he has to retreat, Thrawn would learn a great deal about his opponents, such as the Skytroopers only being Droids and that there wasn’t much of a tactical mind in charge, rather that the Fleet relied on Attrition and throwing everything they had to destroy a target, which Thrawn would take into consideration and formulate a battle plan the next time they go back into Wild Space.
Valkorion’s Fleet would regroup at Zakuul and he would prepare the planet for war against a foreign power. As Thrawn informs Palpatine and Vader about the Fleet he encountered, which he calculates was defending the strange signal, Palpatine begins to mobilize the Imperial Army and Vader to go and find the Origin of the Fleet, and if there is a planet that contains them, that they would claim it for the Empire. The Ground Forces being Commanded by Darth Vader himself, would consist of a large assortment of Stormtroopers, Shock Troopers, Land Vehicles such as AT-AT’s, AT-ST’s, and the like. If Thrawn can secure Air Superiority, he can assist the ground forces by bombing specific targets such as the Spire and other strategic areas to weaken Zakuul. The Beginning of the Battle for Zakuul. The Eternal Fleet would be on full defensive positioning as it is now being ordered to defend Zakuul. Due to the amount of damage it sustained during its battle with Thrawn’s Expeditionary Fleet, Valkorion wants to ensure that Zakuul will not fall. The Ground Forces would begin to mobilize, and Valkorion would send Arcann and Thexan to defend the Spire as it should be the most defended area due to the fact that the Spire controls most of the Skytroopers that fight for the Zakuul forces.
Senya and Vaylin would take control of the Knights of Zakuul and deploy them to the battlefronts that would require their attention to help repel their invaders.Thrawn would be in charge of the Imperial Forces in the Sky, with him using his Chimaera as his control center. Bringing the Full Might of the Empire, Thrawn would use all the assets in his command to utterly decimate the Eternal Fleet.
Knowing of how the Eternal Empire operates from his first encounter, he wouldn’t need to outwit the fleet due to the fact that he has already figured out a counter to the turtle shell tactic they use to defend Zakuul. Though it would take some time, Thrawn knows he should begin to open up a landing zone for the ground invasion.
Darth Vader would be deployed to initial assault once Thrawn has created that opening. Once Thrawn’s fleet has punched a hole through the Eternal Fleet’s defenses, he would allow Vader’s Invasion Fleet to deploy as he covers their descent down to Zakuul. Zakuul would activate it’s Planetary Defense cannons to try and destroy the invasion forces by blasting them out of the sky. Vader would arrive with his accompaniment of stormtroopers and begin to open up a Staging Ground for the Invasion to begin. Valkorion would sense Vader’s presence due to his strength in the Force, and would send Vaylin and Senya to test themselves against Vader, and to retreat when necessary to gain information on him.
Accompanied by the Knights of Zakuul, Senya and Vaylin would engage Vader’s forces once they had already fought through the skytroopers. Senya and Vaylin would both fight Vader as their knights would charge with their lightsaber pikes and shields and command of the force. The Stormtroopers would actually start to lose ground due to the sheer amount of force users surrounding them, and with Vader pre occupied, they would have to turtle up and assume defensive positions to try and fight them off.
As the battle against Vader goes on, Senya and Vaylin are starting to realize that even with them both combined that they cannot defeat him. So they would disengage from the battle and have their knights to cover their escape. Once Vader can focus on the knights and secure a landing zone, the imperials can now begin their full assault as Thrawn’s Fleet continuously takes apart the Eternal Fleet.Assault on the SpireA day into the assault, Imperial Intelligence would find out that a bulk of the Zakuul Forces are gathered around the Spire. Thrawn’s fleet would almost be done with destroying the Eternal Fleet, and has increased Orbital and Air Superiority over Zakuul.
The people would be running and hiding due to the fact that they had never dealt with an opponent that could actually hurt them and kill them. However, remember that Zakuulan Citizens are loyal to Valkorion and will spy on the enemy during this time, even if they aren’t made to be spies.
To give the Eternal Empire a chance, a Zakuulan Citizen would report that to High Justice Vaylin that the Outlander forces are preparing an assault on the Spire. This would give their forces time to shore up their defenses. The scions at this point would try to approach Valkorion about their vision for the outcome of the war. They would say that the Eternal Empire is done for and that Valkorion must be willing to put everything on the line to have a chance of victory. Vader again leads the battle against the Spire, but are ambushed as they arrive due to the Zakuulan forces ready for the invading forces.
The battle would commence, and it would be a hard fought battle, due to the Zakuulan Knights being there with the Eternal Family. But what turns the tide is the Orbital and Air Superiority that Thrawn has achieved. While the ground battle would nearly be stalemated, the air forces would begin to open up gaps in the Zakuulan forces.
Once that happens, I believe the Eternal Family would take the remaining knights and flee to Valkorion’s command center to make one last stand. They would sacrifice the Spire, and it’s people to cover their retreat. During this time, the Empire’s forces would continue to systematically destroy the Eternal Empire, destroying droid production facilities and command centers. While they would have some trouble navigating the land, they would get past this disadvantage and continue to decimate anything in their path due to Thrawn taking control of the skies. The End of the Eternal Empire.
Once Vader’s forces have taken most of the planet, he would lead one final assault on Valkorion. With the battle almost won, Palpatine would hear about the Knights and the amounts of the Force users there were on Zakuul, and would join Vader in the final assault, curious to see another user of the force that wasn’t a Jedi or Sith. The Eternal Family, alongside the Honor Guard and Valkorion would begin to face off against only Vader and Palpatine. The Knights would be decimated to the last, and the Honor Guard would fight valiantly, but Vader’s overall strength would be too much for them as well. Now it’s down to the Eternal Family vs Palpatine and Vader.
Senya, Unchained Vaylin, Arcann and Thexan would all face off against Vader, while Palpatine would have a force battle with Valkorion. Vader would start to get more and more enraged during the battle with the Eternal Family, and would eventually start to kill them off one by one. Thexan going first, then Senya, Arcann and finally Vaylin would all fall to Vader.
Valkorion would put up a decent fight against Palpatine, but he would eventually be overwhelmed by the Emperor and he would electrocute Valkorion to death and end the Eternal Empire. Palpatine takes the Eternal Throne and they now have command of Zakuul. After looking at all the feats the Eternal Empire has, I can safely say that the Galactic Empire takes the cake of this battle. And say, even without Thrawn leading the Space Battles, we have to remember just how powerful the Imperial Fleet was and how much of a time gap that existed between The Old Republic Era and the GCW era. But what do you think? Do you think the Eternal Empire has a shot of beating back the Empire? Or will they succumb to their overwhelming force?
