For riders in the UK and EU, a list of A2 bikes:. When you go to look at a bike, print off this checklist:Which motorcycle fits you? Which motorcycles do you fit? Check out Cycle Ergo. Im a very new riding looking for my first bike.
I really like the Kawasaki Versys 650. It checks off everything on my list of wants for a bike. However, I'm a very short guy 5'3 with about a 27inch inseam. So the 33.1 inch seat height on the versys is very concerning to me.
I sat on one at a dealership and my feet were hang a few inches off the ground. I attempted to one foot it, but even doing that caused me to have to shift my hips almost all the way off the seat, to the point my thigh was the only part of me still over the seat.I really like the bike but fear I can't ride it. I know being totally flat footed isn't required, but being so new id at least like to get my toes and part of my feet on the ground.I found a lowering kit that would lower the seat to 31.5 inches. Which might be manageable for me. But Im concerned about what that may do to the suspension. Ive read lowering a motorcycle can be really bad for suspension and balance?
Any thoughts if that may be doable? Or should I look for something different all together?. As a new rider I'd recommend you get a used bike that you can flat foot. Consider that not only the seat height but also the seat width determine if you can put both feet down. If it takes a lowering kit, so be it.
You're not going to go fast anytime soon. Otherwise you will drop it. It's just a matter of when, not if.Dealing with the weight of the bike in slow speed maneuvers is one of the hardest things to learn for a new rider. Many never practice that skill due to their heavy first bikes and become worse riders because of it.That's one of the many reasons to start on a 300cc bike or smaller if you have absolutely zero riding experience.Years ago, a fellow MSF course taker dropped his brand spanking new Ninja 250 in his driveway when he returned from our class. Just saying. All bikes are easy to ride once they're at speed. But coming to a stop, all it takes is a little bit of gravel, oil, or decline where you place one foot and the weight of your bike will become apparent quickly. I am a new rider and i have a brand-new Versys and dropped it on the second day.

Not good for my ego, but my bike had no scratches thanks to Givi framesliders. It is a big bike, a bit too heavy. That's why I would not recommend it for you.
It's not easy to balance it if you can not reach the ground.Same engine and similar touring capabilities? Try Kawasaki Vulcan S. IF you want to buy new, the offer different seat height, handlebars and footpegs as a cheap option to make it fit your body.I'm 176 cm by the way. I can flat foot it, but I think you just need it lowered too much to really make it the bike you might want.
How set are you on an adventure touring style bike?lowered bikes can ride good, but you may need to spend some time setting it up.I'm 5'9 and my first bike was a KLR650 (36' seat height or something insane like that), I found that getting on it like a horse whilst on the sidestand helped. Also, try to park so you never, ever have to back it up. If I had to do any serious reversing I'd get off and walk it backwards.my airhead r100gs I believe has a 31' seat height, and it's got a nice slim waist so it's pretty easy for me to back up despite having ample ground clearance due to its flat drivetrain.so there are options. There's also work arounds for a tall bike.that said, dealing with a very tall bike as a new rider may be unpleasant or even dangerous. Late chime in here, I grew up racing motorcross from the young age of 3 years old. 21 now, and i wanted a street bike. I knew I needed something that doesn’t have too much power so I can learn, but have plenty of power to put a smile on my face.
And the versys does just that. I’m 5’9” and I’m at stock ride height, if I slide me cheek slightly to the side if I want to flat foot but other than that I’ll be on the balls of my feet/tip toe which isn’t bad for me. With that being said, even with all my experience I dropped it, there’s not much you can do, it happens to the best of us.
But the versys is a “not perfect at anything but good at doing everything.” I’ve taken this off-road, I’ve chased 600’s and 1000’s in the mountains and this bike is VERY capable. The thing is, if you get a 300, your gonna get bored of it pretty quick around the city, with that said, if you do get a 300, take it to the mountains, to the track, and to all the twisty roads you can find. I think you and a lot of people will wonder why anyone buys 600’s or 1000’s when a 300 in the twisties can keep up or even pass them on some roads. There’s a saying, it’s more fun to ride a slow bike fast then a fast bike slow, and when your ringing that 300 out for all it’s got you’ll have a smile on your face I promise.

I have this rider and passenger footpeg lowering kit installed on my 2012 V. The rider peg is lowered about 25mm but you do loose some foot rest space as a result.
This helps me get a bit more comfy on the pegs (pillion too). I am 5' 10' so I have limited inseam height.I believe that padding up your saddle would be more effective for your 6' 2' height with the added bonus of an even more comfy seat.
I don't think reach will be an issue for you though you may find that your riding posture may not be as upright as you would like. Perhaps a riser block from the same vendor can help. Rob7711;281847 wrote: I have this rider and passenger footpeg lowering kit installed on my 2012 V.

Perhaps a riser block from the same vendor can help. I had about the same problem when I wanted to buy my Versys. But due to my short legs I could not touch the ground.

And yes I knew that you could lower the bike, but nobody was even selling them in Thailand. So even before I bought the bike I asked the Kawa dealer if you would test install them on their test-ride-Versys. And he said yes, so I bought the lowering-kit and had it installed on the test-ride-versys. And it worked perfect so I bought a Versys.Nowadays you can rent the Versys very easy, so just rent one and try if it is really so cramped. If so buy the stuff you think that will help you and install that on the rental bike (not sure if the rental-company is going to like it).Chang Noi.
